Stratigraphic interpretation of a complex channel system using SEA3D

The Project:

This dataset contains highly complex, stacked turbidite channel systems that would be time consuming to interpret. StratApp enables a rapid stratigraphic interpretation to be performed and also creates volumes that would accelerate conventional interpretation.

The Volumes:

The channel systems were identifiable by their high amplitude and chaotic nature. Therefore an attribute volume was created that highlights areas where both these characteristics exist. Using this attribute volume, connected bodies were extracted helping to define the channel systems. The upper and lower surfaces of the bodies were subsequently extracted and merged back into the seismic data. Horizons could then be rapidly autotracked on these surfaces, which are unique values at each end of the dynamic range. The volumes were created at ffA's dedicated services centre in Aberdeen and illustrate the quality of results achievable by asset geoscientists using ffA's SEA 3D™ image processing and analysis software.
